Description
Banvallsleden bicycle route is about 220 kilometres long and goes between Halmstad and Karlshamn.
Banvallsleden trail passes through Ljungby municipality. Information about the trail is available for purchase at the tourist office.
The entire trail was originally a railway network consisting of three separate railway lines. The railway between Karlshamn and Vislanda was inaugurated in 1874 by King Oscar II. The next stretch to be built was between Vislanda and Bolmen, and that was finished in 1878. The last stretch between Bolmen and Halmstad was inaugurated in 1889.
The railway was an extremely important communications link for many years. In addition to passengers and post, it transported timber, ironware, cattle, lingonberries, potatoes, sugar beets, etc. The last trains between Karlshamn and Vislanda used the track in 1970.
